GAPDH - a Loading Control in Western Blotting

GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is one of the key enzymes involved in glycolysis. It is one of the so called housekeeping proteins and GAPDH is constitutively expressed in almost all tissues in high amounts. For this reason, GAPDH is widely used as a loading control for protein normalization in Western blotting. It is also useful for cell visualization in microscopy assays and can be used to investigate cell metabolism and functional activity.

Anti-GAPDH monoclonal antibodies developed by HyTest, especially the well characterized MAb 6C5, are suitable for GAPDH immunodetection in Western blotting, sandwich immunoassays and immunocytochemical applications. The antibodies cross-react with GAPDH in several animal species (see Table). For more information, please see our GAPDH TechNotes.
