Cytokeratin Fragment 21-1 (CYFRA21-1)

Cytokeratin Fragment 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) is considered to be the most sensitive marker in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Together with other tumor markers, CYFRA 21-1 may aid in the histological classification and treatment efficacy assessment of advanced NSCLC.

CYFRA21-1 is a fragment of cytokeratin 19 (CK19) that is soluble in serum. CK19 is an acidic protein of 40 kDa that is part of the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. The clinical application of the CYFRA 21-1 immunoassay is to detect these soluble protein fragments derived from CK19 in the circulation of cancer patients. The clinical value of determining soluble cytokeratin protein fragments in body fluids lies in the early detection of recurrence and the rapid assessment of therapy efficacy in epithelial cell carcinomas.

Hytest offers monoclonal mouse antibodies XC42cc and our newest addition,1X5cc, (Cat. # 4CY1) for the development of the CYFRA21-1 assay. We recommend using XC42cc (Capture) and 1X5cc (Detection) as a pair for sandwich ELISA.
