Lp-PLA2 is primarily synthesized in atherosclerotic plaques and several studies suggest that it could be used as a prognostic marker of major cardiovascular events. Lp-PLA2 levels have been shown to predict adverse cardiac-related events in both patients with stable coronary artery disease and in a healthy adult population.
